$1:
New rules mean companies can demand up to 400 hours of overtime a year and delay payment for it for three years.

In case anyone didn’t do the math an extra 400 hours per year is 7.5 hours a week....your employer could force you to work 6 days a week with the extra day unpaid EVERY SINGLE WEEK. I wouldn’t hold my breath for the supposed payout after 3 years.

Right wing Fascist Orban, a man admired by trump supporters, doing what right wing fascists do.

Populism has and always will be a cover for a corporatist agenda.

Unemployment in Hungary is at a historic low of only 3.7 percent, and the government is opposed to suggestions that immigration is the key to solving the labor shortage problem. Since about half a million Hungarians have left the country to work in western Europe for higher salaries, the only option left for the government is to make those who stay at home work more.

Sounds like you'd swallow that as validation.

No it's just interesting.

I'm just fact gathering right now.

The unions and other socialists are calling the new Hungarian law allowing employers to ask or offer up to 400 hours a year up from 250 hrs a "slave law."

Is it?

Accepting the extra work doesn't appear to be mandatory but would pressure from employers make it appear so to employees?

Are there any laws protecting employees. That would be interesting if there were.

So far we only have the progressive media and some blogs talking the issue from their bias. I imagine the facts will eke out a little at a time as they usually do.

Right now Orban is accusing the unions of lying and blaming Soros for organizing the protests but I don't take Viktor's word as the full and final truth any more than I do BBC's or CNN's.

Listen to the fascist apologist try to justify fascism

Note that not only would the employer be able force them to work an extra day a week but they would have to do it UNPAID l. And let’s be clear waiting 3 years to be paid for work is basically unpaid work.

Unpaod work is FORCED LABOUR

The excuse for forced labour is low unemployment. Sounds like a nice problem have actually. Fascism never runs out of excuses to impose itself.

I wonder what would happen if they were told to go fist themselves. If they're in a labour shortage, businesses aren't going to want to fire people, that would just exacerbate the problem.

Then again, corporate environments don't exactly promote logical thought, so they'll do the complete opposite.

Freedumb! I'm going to assume that a large part of this kind of "thinking" is a result of the inroads American slime like Steve Bannon have been making among the extremist right wing in Europe. This is as close to an existential return to serfdom as it gets - you have to work for free now, and you better keep your mouth shut & like it if you know what's good for you.

Already notice the Orwellian doublespeak in Fiddle’s post:
“those who stay at home” = someone who works 5 days a week

What I notice is your problem discerning reality. Believe it or not what you wish was true doesn't become so by your wishing.

I specifically said I'm waiting for the facts to trickle out.

I offered no apologies for Orban. I only noted that he's calling the Unionists and leftover socialists of Hungary who are organizing protests and pushing the "slave" label, liars.

Are there possibilities where he might be correct? If for example something is written into this law we haven't heard about yet protecting employees from overtime becoming mandatory that would give Orban a point.

I'm waiting to hear the full story from both sides. Didn't get that from the BBC story badly linked in the OP.

Oh, look who is to blame, again!

$1:
The governing Fidesz party has said the protests are the work of foreign mercenaries paid by Hungarian-born US billionaire George Soros.

Mr Soros denies this, and says the Hungarian authorities are using him as a scapegoat.
