Shedding salaries for a shot at the Stamkos lotto?

Well Lucic was in town for tour of Rogers place yesterday.

Hate to see any team, even the Oilers, give up young talent that can still be turned around with the right leadership in order to take a chance on an ageing meathead of dubious value like Lucic.

hopefully there's a 3 way coming up next, some how tied in with what the Habs did today.

Joke of a trade. Possibly the worst asset management seen in...shit, I want to even say Gretzky.

We just traded Hall for a d-man that is about on par with Justin freaking Schultz. Worse than Petry. Two d-men we gave away for peanuts.

1st line winger for a #4 defenseman...on one of the worst d-cores in the league...abysmal.

Hey numb nutz,

Stamkos to sign eight-year, $68 million deal with Lightning

http://www.tsn.ca/stamkos-to-sign-eight ... g-1.517913
This is a major surprise. Why he waited so long is beyond me. He may live to regret this decision and he took a lot less money, though will pay a lot less taxes.
And he doesn't have to live in TO

Maybe it's a sign and trade, not a lot of further details. Stamkos jut a few hours ago met with MLSE, the mayor of Toronto and the CEO of Canadian Tire. I will not be convinced until it's finalized and covered on Sportsnet.

Now Chiarelli can say he's the man that traded both Taylor and Tyler. :|

Stamkos wouldn't go to the Oilers if they offered him $15M a year. This is an overdue move by a franchise that has burned through more number ones than any team in history.

I just can't wait for McDavid to finish his 5 year sentence in Edmonton so he can sign with Toronto as a free agent, and help them win a Cup with Stamkos as captain.

Keep dreaming, McDavid isn't going anywhere. Typical Laffs fan.

Same reason the Canucks have never won a Cup?

Has anyone noticed that Hall has never made a Team Canada where Hockey Canada has had the whole NHL to pick from, Olympic and the up and coming World Cup team ?

He has played for 6 years now, and it sucks to be out of the playoffs by Christmas time, but i feel he's one of the first to throw in the towel for the season. A lot of Hall of Fame hockeymen have past on him for some reason. Prehaps his heart isn't as big as his OHL press clippings were.

Taking no side here, but playing devil's advocate: wanna hear the one that goes, 'this isn't such a bad trade. In fact it might be a good one?'

Here's, tsn Edmonton, radio talk show guy, Dustin Nielsen talking to Vancouver sports talk show guys. He's trying to sell the trade.

Call em' up and give em hell tomorrow boys.

Basically the 'good trade' pitch goes something like this:

Chiarelli wants to change the culture in the room. Maybe there was a conflict of personalities and Edmonton went into the off season planning to trade Hall. That's why he's was willing to settle on one for one.

Also the Edmonton defense is 'brutal'. Something had to be done. Even if Larsson does turn out to be nothing more than a # 4 defenceman he'll still be the best defenceman on the squad according to Neilsen.

The trade clears a little more cap space and more trades or acquisitions through free agency are coming. This will all make sense when the dust clears.

Something like that anyway.

I've heard too. Stuff like how Larsson is the future while Hall has been stagnating. Still doesn't seem like a fair trade.

This is kind of skill for magic beans trade we're used to in Vancouver.

This is bad as when the Cleveland Browns drafted Johnny Manziel.
