True... they can have a say for when you can get married (16-17) but not when you can have sex.

Side note: we have 3 kids (1 boy and 2 girls) and we got the news from all three when they lost their virginity. Surprisingly, the one we thought that would lose it the youngest, actually turned out to be the oldest.

EDIT: I never told my parents when I lost mine. I decided that I'd be open enough with my kids so that they'd feel comfortable enough to discuss this.

Alot of the "experts" are saying that girls are sexually active earlier and more inclined to start at younger ages, then I think about my Grandma that was married when she was 15 or my Greatgrandma when she was 14.
I think it's more a case of society has deemed a marriagable age to be older than it used to be but puberty still hits around the same age, it's no wonder when looked at like this.
Still I shake my head at kids these days with no idea of what they are doing to themselves.

There is among several neanderthal the position that if its a older woman with a teenage boy to say "lucky kid", where if it was a older guy with a underage girl he would be hung from a tree and not by his neck.

The principal has to remain the same regardless of who does what to whom.

there are 10 years of life experience between 15 and 25. It's not that hard to see that some 15 years may want to be sexually active, but it is also not that hard to see how easily a 15 year old could be exploited. I think the laws should be there not to restrict the first, but to protect from the later.

I was just pointing out how taboos change through the years. Both Grandmothers mentioned in my comment were alive in my lifetime and both had happy successful marriages.
I see your point about exploitation though, these are different times than back then and I agree with the laws we have in place.

That's the whole Mrs. Robinson thing.
How many of us as young hormone charged boys thought that way about an older woman, I had a science teacher in grade 7 that I would have if it was offered (man she was hot). Being male I can't vouch for how a teenage girl would view the reverse situation.
It's hypocritical to condone it for boys and condem it for girls though, the law applies to everyone. We all know that if the sexes were reversed though that any guy caught doing this would be branded a pedophile and have sex offender attached to his name for life though. Yet another case of our societies double standards.
