Odd thing is a friend of mine from Utah went to see it at a show that was listed as 'sold out' and he said there were maybe 80 people in the theater.

That's a total anecdote, mind you, but it would not be the first time a studio (or a bookseller) bought up their own tickets/books to pump up their initial numbers.

The fact it broke well isn't a surprise.

I was hearing that expectation from the anti-woke on YouTube long before it opened.

They did promote the Hell out of the movie and the negative chatter most likely just kept it in the conversation. Also she's supposed to be important to the Avengers: End Game story.

It is a surprise how well it's doing though. Will it have legs is the next question. I heard the break even number is around 500 million. Sounds like they'll break that, no problem.

As far as "Get woke. Go broke" goes that story has yet to play out. The critic reviews aren't overwhelming. Audience reviews are more bashes. Neither can be trusted. We have to wait and see.

As I recall the first of the Disney Star Wars series did well but as the novelty wore off and all that was left was tedious wokeness poured into average films it ended in the failure that was Solo. And now Disney's showing signs of being worried. Didn't the head woman get fired?

Avengers: End Game should break well too but after that we'll discover if they've wrecked the MCU.

The word of mouth I'm hearing on Captain Marvel - even the positive stuff, is more like "Yeah, it's OK..." But that's all.

The primary Star Wars storyline is hopelessy borked but Rogue One was exceptional.
