Yank-in-NY Yank-in-NY: You want my opinion from afar? The Liberals nailed the cons to the cross, so to speak. After 13 years of alleged demagoguery and thievery, if this is the best the Cons can do, they are up shits creek. It's obvious Canadians don't trust either a) Harper or b) the cons in general.
Anyways, congrats to your new government. Best of luck.
I agree with this statement, its a pretty sad picture for the Cons with all the support they were gaining and all the bad baggage the Liberals were carying that this was the best they could do.

Or it just goes to show you that we don't need the big 3 to win. Just wait till Quebec jumps on this next time.
Shutout’s Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver. No Ministers either.
Next time no pandering to the big cities or the immigrant vote. didn't help this time.

I think the conservative sdid need the big 3 cities to win big.
Sure technically the cons won and will form a government, but I see it also as a slight loss, to what was looking like they could have won. I think most people are surprised, people in the media anyways at how well the liberals and how little the conservatives won by.

Are you giving the Bloc advice? I could have sworn that what Parizeau said when he lost.
"It is true, it is true that we were beaten, but in the end, by what? By money and ethnic votes, essentially."

I think this says volumes about the liberals. They have painted the Conservatives as the devil incarnate, and yet people were so fed up with them they gave the Cons a chance finally.

But we still are the only party with money in the bank and we didn't need the ethnic vote.

Nice way of putting it there buddy, Take a look at the elected areas, no matter what the Liberals do the immigrants will throw their vote behind them. It's a fact now. No racist slurs need like yours to come up with that conclusion.

racist slurs! I'm just writing what you'd REALLY like to say. You're the one who's implying that "ethnic" votes are less worthy than others.

DerbyX DerbyX: Tman1 Tman1: Yes, the Liberals sure hammered those nails to the proverbial cross so to speak with their excellent campaigns smudged with baseless accusations and lame tactics of desparation. I think the Cons did an pretty good campaign and won major victories in Ontario and Quebec and of course the obvious West so no that isn't the best the Cons can do because the future will answer that well enough. Maybe they will do better, maybe not and you could be right that this is the best that they ever will accomplish. Considering how the Cons did last time around, this is a major step forward and like someone else indicated, Canadians don't quite trust Harper (yet) or you could add another answer to your multiple choice c)Canadians still cling to Liberal values for reasons unknown. Just a question. Since the cons knew to get elected they had to move further left then thewy were and were rewarded (though Lib scandals gave it to them). Since Martin is stepping down and all those implicated are gone will you and the west give the Liberals a chance when they "clean house" and re-build the party?
For myself it wasn't just the liberal corruption, but their platform that I do not agree with. I find that in a federal election, it's the party platform that leads my vote over the individual local nominee for MP.
The lib's can clean house, and put on a new face, but I feel they'll still have some of the fundamental principles that I disagree with.

Since the campaign revolved around the fact that the CPC and NDP picked up massive support from angry Liberal voters your particular stance isn't relevant. Canada by and large does not agree with either far left or far right and will return to the Liberals when the Libs return to the party they were and the CPC starts to fracture as harper gives up so much of his platform just to get the support he needs to make a budget.
