Just got back home after stopping at 711. There were some panicky looking Chinese women in there buying all the remaining bottles of Purell. And they ended up paying something like $100 for about eight of the mini-bottles. Seems kind of foolish but it's their money to waste I suppose.

Heard something that excessive use of those hand cleaners can make things worse anyway. Apparently that goo is acidic enough that it destabilizes the Ph balance in the skin, and makes the pores more permeable and therefore more susceptible to a virus or germ entering the body that way. Hardly seems worth the panic when good old regular soap is pretty much all anyone needs to use to stay mostly safe.

In a year we'll compare mortality rates between socialist systems and the rest of the world and the stats will speak a story that neither of us will be able to deny.

You read that the CDC stopped posting Covid-19 numbers right?

Ignoring the problem won't solve it.

They did this because we ran out of testing kits. The numbers of people infected were becoming meaningless anyway.

Hate to say but too many government conspiracy types on the right were using these numbers to downplay the severity of the pandemic when in fact the damned thing continues to spread.

The fact that every other Health system on the planet still has these kits may lend some fuel to that fire.

And sanitizer only works on germs and bacteria, not viruses.

You need good old fashioned soap for those.

Just seen on a news feed we have one person now being tested for the Corona Virus. Doesn't mean they have it but they are the first one in the county being tested for it. We live about 1 hour from San Antonio where the CDC let someone out who 2 weeks later tested positive for the virus.

The US fatality rate is very high at the moment. That could be random or reflect a large number of positive but untested cases in the community. Assuming a 1% fatality rate, 11 deaths suggests something in the region of a thousand cases. I doubt it’s a coincidence that the country with the best testing program, South Korea, has a much lower fatality rate.

It's likely due to the fact the most of the deaths are in one nursing home in Washington State.

Well that's a decent update showing 1 in Houston. That case was found/reported yesterday and I was hearing about it this morning when I got into work.

Take into account that is only confirmed cases. Like the flu, many may get minor symptoms and recover without any problems, or having it diagnosed as Covid-19.

Those won't make it to the statistics.

Here's an explanation of why this is scary for government leaders:

Assuming that previous statements about 30% of the population being naturally immune is true then let's say about 70% of the global population eventually contracts this thing and then 3.42% of those people die.

Canada has 37,500,000 people.

26,250,000 contract the disease.

3.42% succumb.

That's potentially 897,750 Canadians dead. Just from the disease. Now add in the ripple multiplier effect as hospitals are overwhelmed with sick people and you can probably add another 500,000 or so who will perish from treatable or chronic conditions because routine care will not be available for them.

US stats right now:

80 confirmed cases. 10 deaths. 12.5% mortality.
