Scape Scape: I would add for context here that in the US they only have 90,000 beds. It is the height of flu season right now to they are running at max capacity. California alone as of today has more than 1700 healthcare facilities, 116,000 licensed skilled nursing beds, and another 83,000 licensed hospital beds.

BartSimpson BartSimpson: Iran is reporting more than 500 dead. But how many are dissidents/protesters with bullet wounds?

A couple of articles said that Russia is reporting no cases at all, which probably means they're applying their centuries-old traditional shoot/shovel/shut-up approach to anything or anyone that can cause internal problems or unrest. I'd wager now that in some of these hellholes across the planet more people are going to die from the brutally wild over-reactions by the governments they're living under than from the actual illness itself.

Last week my feckless fucking management team was telling people to ignore this situation and not to talk about it.
Just now I came across their purchase order for 400 N-95 masks that they filed 2/21/2020.
The very second I see someone wearing a mask I am leaving.

Here: https://www.sccm.org/Communications/Critical-Care-AHA data: According to the AHA 2015 annual survey, the United States had 4862 acute care registered hospitals; 2814 of these had at least 10 acute care beds and at least 1 ICU bed. These hospitals had a total of 540,668 staffed beds and 94,837 ICU beds (14.3% ICU beds/total beds) in 5229 ICUs.

Analysis based on today's numbers from Johns Hopkins. $1: Hubei Province, China (where the city of Wuhan is) has 2803 deaths with 67,103 confirmed cases.
That is about 42 deaths per 1000 cases of COV-19 virus. So Iran has the highest death rate...
However, Iran has 66 deaths with only 1501 cases. This is about 44 deaths per 1000 REPORTED cases.
Italy only has 52 deaths with 2036 reported cases. This is about 26 deaths per 1000 cases.
There may be more cases in the Seattle area than have been reported. There are 6 deaths there, but only 18 reported cases. 5 deaths in King County and 1 death in Snohomish County. 14 reported cases in King County and 4 cases in Snohomish County.
There may be more cases in the Seattle area than reported. Too few cases for 'statistical analysis' - my opinion. People getting the disease with severe underlying health problems may explain this...

herbie herbie: FFS it's the flu! Much as you like to go back then, it ain't 1918 anymore. Buy some chicken soup and get back to work. With at least ten times the fatality rate (and hospitalization rate). But there is good news - it’s mainly unproductive geezers who die. Generally speaking, the workers will be able to get back to their tasks in short order.

There have been a few comments in this thread about ‘only’ elderly people being affected by the plague du jour.

I don't fit the current range that is affected the most or dies from this the most. Still old geezer gaze sounds like an awesome supper hero power.
