Let me see if I got that straight.
We tell our kids to walk away from bullies - to ignore them and they'll go away. So when Moore skates away from Bertuzzi he basically was asking to be sucker-punched?
Holy. Makes me glad my kids aren't involved in the sport.
Look - I don't care if the media and the fans were out for blood. The guys on the ice are supposedly grown men. And to suggest that Moore shouldn't have been playing because he MIGHT be targeted? Swell - great new tactic. Too bad no-one thought of it during the Gretzky years. All anyone would have had to do was plant a few stories about how he'd be targeted and he'd have been out of the line-up.
We might have stood a chance then.

first of all in no way am I condoning Bertuzzi's actions. What Todd did was serious.. should have never happened hindsight being 20/20 right.. but at the time Mr Moore was set up without protection by his own staff.. but in thier defence they could not have forseen what was going to happen.
Mr Moore turned away from every Canuck player.. who challenged him.. he played way more that night than he did at any point during the season. Mr. Moore was at best a forth line player.. his ass should have been in the pressbox that night and not on the ice.. He was a distraction that took the Canucks out of the game. He is not Sakic or forsberg.. he was at best a 5 minute a night 4th liner.. if he was in the line up at all..
Granato knew the fans the opposition everyone wanted a piece of this kid then my do you dress him put him on the ice almost 3x the amount of time he regularly goes out. He turned his back and walked away.. yes a very admirable quality.. but not when in the game of hockey you need to at that level stick up for yourself Gretzky Kariya a number of the top players have at one time or another dropped the gloves and fought.. it's part of the game. All he had to do was dfrop them with May or Rutuu or anyone... who does he choose to go with...

He choose to go with Vancouvers smallest player and mouth piece. Matt Cooke and skates away from other guys who are all the same size as he is... was he scared.. yes.. but if he would have danced with May and Rutuu.. problem solved.. through a couple of punches get beat up a little.. gain some respect..... thats all he had to do.. he didn't it only made things worse for him....
Lily do you ever watch Hockey.. do you know how many sucker punches are thrown all the time.. sticks hacking and smaking.. it is not a game for the faint of heart...especially at the NHL level....
Moore would have been targeted becuase he had a penchant for trying to take the best players out of games.. knee to knee.. hits in compromised positions etc etc etc.. this kid did not have a halo and wings.. quit painting him as a little angel.. he was a hockey player who dished it out but when it was returned turned away from it.. If You give then you recieve simple as that at that level... he never received.. it infuriated the canucks bench.. one thing leads to another.. amd bang we have a problem houston.... All he had to do was stand up take a scrap or two and it would have been settled.. he didn't and the roller coaster took off.
