Yeah I truly wonder if Bertuzzi will be the dominating player he was. Canucker is right....is he going to back off from opponents or will he play his style again. Guess we will find out in due time.

I think he'll be a good boy for awhile, but after the other "tough" guys take a few liberties with him, he'll start playing tough again. I don't think he'll even pull another "Bertuzzi", but he won't play like a poof.

Well no, but he is on probation and that will always be in the back of his mind. At least with the new rules, players won't be able to do as much or any clutching and grabbing, which will free him up a whole lot.

Well, this is Hockey and it's a contact sport. No matter what rules they put in there will always be ways to take liberties. The other tough guys will try and run him, hack him, a little butt end in the corner, all designed to try and make him loose his temper.

I just feel bad for Steve Moore myself. Here Todd gets to resume his career. The Avalanche sign May... Nothing is going well for Steve Moore these days. Here's my article on it:

I'm sure the Avs are taking good care of Moore, but it's business as usual for the team. At least Worrell is gone...

The more I hear from Moore, the more he sounds like a whiner. Here is another article where he goes on about how is surprised about Bertuzzi getting to resume his career, and how he is still injured etc etc.

I haven't seen the hit Moore laid on Naslund, so I can only go from what I read on it.

I did see the hit Todd laid on Moore.

Did anyone see the car crash that killed Dale Earnhardt? It was a non-event if you ask me. Looked like a fender bender but he died. I look at the Bertuzzi hit and I see the same thing. A punch to the head with a glove on followed by people tumbling to the ice.

If Naslund had a career ending injury as a result of the Moore hit, he would be where Bertuzzi is now. The fact that one act caused a more serious consequence than the other is pure luck. Fate, if you will.

But to listen to Moore's whining you'd swear that he is some angel that was targeted for death.

He is no better than Bertuzzi when it comes to on-ice behavior. The only difference was pure luck. Furthermore, the fact that he is suing Bertuzzi is laughable at best.

not only that but bert only went for a marginal player at best and moore creamed our captain, a big no no in the nhl, then moore knew that he was a marked man and his coach still let him play in the game where the canucks had nothing else to lose so bert did what everyone wanted him to, exact revenge, I also heard that steve moores injury was no worse that what lots of figure skaters get and they are back on the ice in no time, I think he is just trying to pad his defense for the monetary gain.

canucker canucker:
At the time of the first game when Moore hit Naslund it was a close game and both teams were fighting for top spot in the northwest division. Nobody on the Canucks team wanted to retaliate at that point in fear that they would potentially blow the game by taking a bad penalty. Years ago issues like that were settled on the ice during the same game so it wouldn't carry over from game to game. Unfortunately the NHL has changed since then and stuff like this is brought into future games and bad incidents like this happen. Part of this problem is the instigator rule, IMO.

Moore did fight that night against Matt Cooke. However, Matt Cooke is one of the smallest guys on the Canucks and he isn't a very good fighter. Needless to say, Cooke didn't fair too well in the fight against Moore therefore the Canucks probably felt as though nothing was settled in that altercation. You must also keep in mind this game took place in Vancouver, the Canucks were embarrassed because they were getting blown out at home in an important game and sometimes emotions take over and cloud your mind of better judgement. I'm not condoning what Bertuzzi did, I'm just trying to explain the situation from a different point of view.

There are a lot of unwritten rules in hockey, and one of them is you don't take runs at the star players unless you are prepared to face the consequences. Clean hit or not, Moore took a run at Naslund and injured him. Hockey players have long memories and aren't going to forget that. Usually there are a few fights, and then it is over. Unfortuntately in this situation it didn't work out that way and a player got seriously injured and another player put a huge black eye on his reputation as a hockey player. Hopefully something like this doesn't happen again in the future.

Hockey gets a bad reputation for things like this happening but in reality usually the players are able to police themselves for the most part and there aren't any major problems like this. I'm sure everybody learned a few things from this unfortunate incident.

I still stand by my post earlier. I hope Bertuzzi can get through his probationary period with no complications, and I hope the fans other than in BC will give him a chance.

from the Si article: and my comments.....

$1:
DENVER (AP) -- Steve Moore is surprised Todd Bertuzzi was reinstated by the NHL for a blindside punch that broke the neck of the former Colorado Avalanche forward.

"It's difficult to see that he's able to play again when I still have a long way to go, and not just in hockey, but with my health," Moore said in Thursday's Denver Post.

Okay first off Steve moore did not break his neck at no point was he a "quad" or did he bruise his spinal cord. The injury was to the transverse spinous processes off his neck at no time was his life in jeopardy. He got a serious concussion yes.. much like the ones he gave to Naslund and St Louis in weeks previous. Neurologists have now cleared him to play. Doctors have said it is okay for him to resume training...It is now up to Steve Moore to judge what he can or can't do.
Having had concussive related problems before I know what Moore is going through.. I can't go on a merry go round with my kids now without feeling like I'm going to throw up.. getting better but not quite there yet.

$1:
Moore had extensive tests this week at Cleveland Clinic as doctors attempted to gauge his recovery from the March 8, 2004, hit that left him with a fractured neck and concussion. Results are not expected for several weeks.

"I'm better than I was two months ago, better than I was six months ago, and certainly better than I was 17 months ago," Moore told the newspaper at his home in suburban Toronto. He is working out in the gym and on the ice but still experiences occasional wooziness.
"The concussion is more of the issue, for sure," he said. "The neck feels pretty good."

As above he fractured not the vertebrae but the processes that are there to "protect the vertebrae" thats why we have them.... That by the way didn't happen from the punch.. that happened from the slide.. His neck is getting better.. yes it is healing thats what happens over time eventually he won't have concusive problems either. not condoning Bertuzzi's actions at all.. it was a stupid thing for him to do.

$1:
Moore said he hasn't heard from Bertuzzi. He has filed a lawsuit in Denver in which he has named Bertuzzi, former Canucks forward Brad May -- now with the Avalanche -- Canucks coach Marc Crawford, former GM Brian Burke and Orca Bay Sports and Entertainment, owner of the Canucks
.
Flagrant lie... Bert has tried to contact him several times. Bert apologized to him on TV, in the newspapers.. at the NHL meeting. He has done everything possible to contact him without any return for the past 17 months.. Ludicrous comment.. But of course it's Si He should also be suing tony Granato and the Avs organization as well as the officials and the NHL not just the canucks.

$1:
Danson believes Moore will drop the suit if he plays again.

"He doesn't want to be in the courtroom, he wants to be on the ice," Danson said
.

Moore won't drop the suit even if he can play again becuase this is his pay day. He will make far more from this day in court than he ever will as a fringe player in the NHL give it a rest Danson.

I would put a good chunk of the blame on Tony Granato as well (gotta like his first name though) What was Tony Granato thinking of putting Steve Moore on the ice with with Bertuzzi with what.....a minute or so left in the game and from my memory it was like 7-0 for the Av's.

Smart coaches would not have been so ignorant about the situation at that time...it was putting throwing gasoline on the already burning fire! It was a recipe for it to hapen. No wonder Granato is no longer a coach.....I can't see him ever being a head coach let alone an assistant.

This whole thing is sickening.:x

Apparently, the league hasn't learned anything. I guess the standard fine to end someone's career is about $500,000 and a year off hockey. Not too bad seeing as he wasn't going to play anyways with the NHLPA locked out.

The thing I wonder is why was McSorley essentially banned from the NHL for hurting Brashear, but this goon ends someone's career and he gets a fine and a big welcome back hug from the NHLPA the day his suspension is lifted? Yes, the attack on Brashear was potentially more dangerous, but it didn't end his career.

I wonder if I was to attack Bertuzzi and ruin his life and end his career if my punishment would be so lenient...

The NHL is looking after itself this time. They need all their stars in the line up now and for the Olympics. He has enough money to get him through his life even if he doesn't play another game. The fans in Vancouver on the other hand have seen the biggest loss right in front of them since he was suspended. People will pay specifically to see him play and that's what the NHL and Vancouver are counting on since the strike lasted so long. If there was no strike and the season started on time last year, I bet his suspension would have lasted to Christmas.

Proof once more what a JOKE the NHL is, has been for years, and will be from now on. If you factor in the cancelled season he received nothing for ending someones career.

You are falling into the trap of assessing punishment based on the consequence, and not the act. If you decide to ban Bertuzzi from hockey, it would be for punching a guy with a gloved hand and then falling on top of him as he went down.

This happens during almost every hockey fight, except that it isn't usually with a gloved hand!! Are you going to ban everyone from hockey that is in a fight? Or just sucker punches? Are you going to ban the guy that sliced Malarchuk's neck with his skate?

Punishment should fit the intent of the act, not the realised consequence. As such, Bertuzzi's act (sucker punch as act of revenge) was more than sufficiently punished IMHO.

In the spirit of consistency, perhaps Moore should also have been fined and suspended, however I never saw the hit to know if it was clean or not.
