Whether or not the cartoons were wrong is up to debate. What is not is the fact that these individuals are attacking and burning places up. their violence is an attack against the very axiom that is required for a civilized society.

If everybody followed your logic that law would not be necessary and everybody would use might to get their moral dictum across. That in itself proves it wrong. One has to follow a universal standard to get things done. You cannot blow someone up.. you cannot attack an embassy because of a drawing. you may think differently, but our standard says so.

IceOwl, I didnt know you were such a strict moral relativist. If so, you might as well not evey debate. You wouldnt think there was a good or bad. We however, have accepted the moral standard accepted in western socities.

IceOwl IceOwl:
It doesn't seem particularly difficult to just not write cartoons that upset people who are likely to get violent when you piss them off.

Freedom of speech is the right to piss people off. Freedom of speech isn't for speech that everyone likes, because that doesn't need protection.

Conversely, being pissed off does not give you the right to burn down embassies.

Are you such an emotional cripple that you have to appease those who would destroy you?

You have forgotten how we came to their aid after the tsunami, the earthquake, all the other foriegn aid?

There was a tsunami and an earthquake in Syria? When?

What they aren't protesting anywhere else? Or you only want to focus on one part of the whole issue? Pretty small minded of you. Sit back down and finish your delicious cheese. :P

Hey, Ice Fool,

Same Sex Marriage really offends Islamic fundamentalists. I guess Canada will have to reverse itself on SSM because it needlessly offends Muslims.

You'll have to stop dating.

On law...

Law is therefore reason without passion-Aristotle

Law is the public expression of reason- Socrates

This is what I mean. In Denmark they apologize for drawings published through free speech. In Syria a country that dosn't have that right they burn down the embassy which is obviously encouraged by the government otherwise these people would have been stopped long ago.

So Denmark does all it can do without infringing on rights:1 point Denmark

Syria encouraes it's oppressed citizens to take their anger out on Denmark in a violent fashion:-1

Denmark:1

Syria:-1

lets keep it comming I can't wait until it gets to

Denmark:1000

Syria:-1000

IceOwl IceOwl:
sukhoi sukhoi:
Iceowl, Do you haven any conception of what freedom is?

Well, I've never given birth to such a deep-rooted idea, so, no, I guess I don't have any "conception" of freedom.

As for what the concept of freedom is, that's up for debate. It has been said that the slave thinks he is released from bondage only to find a stronger set of chains.

$1:
Freedom is the ability to practice your own moral dictum as long as it dosent conflcit with the law.

The law is just another moral dictum.

$1:
The law is set up to create boundries for the individuals to act within.

It can also be easily said that laws restrict freedom.

Listen:

It doesn't seem particularly difficult to just not write cartoons that upset people who are likely to get violent when you piss them off. It's the same reason it's generally not a very intelligent idea to go about stirring up hornet's nests on purpose.

Your point being - every thing is relative???

Danishvking, That is exactly my point. It seems that he doesnt understand the importance of a standard across the board that has to be followed. Why? because if not this happens.

Sorry to crack open the idyllic picture of Denmark – but WE HAVEN’T APOLLOGIEZED FOR NOTHING AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO! The news paper have said is was sorry for any harm it might have caused – that’s a very different matter. [boxing]
