The idea is peace through strength. The problem is you have to be sane and so too your adversary. I remember Sting had a song called Russians.

The Russians may have been 'godless' (as the propaganda stated at the time) but with religious fanatics with no future anyway like the Wahhabis and Mujahideen who believed that resistance is not futile vs a technological superior enemy one wonders what the future will hold.

Those things scare me. They have around 200 independantly targeted nuclear warheads. 1 boat could destroy every major city in the western world (or any area of the world, really). And the US has 14 of these boats!!! The Ohio's were never designed to start a war, they would sure as hell end it!

I have heard of talk about converting some of them into cruise missile carriers. Each missile tube could hold 7 tomahawk cruise missiles. 1 submarine would have more such missiles than an entire carrier battle group. And the tomahawk can be armed with a nuclear warhead, it was actually designed for that and modified to carry a high explosive warhead.

Nope, actually fear. If you delve into the persons psyche, it is known that fear presides over ones emotions and acting through this fear is a innate desire to rectify a particular situation, revenge. Revenge is the tool of the fearful.. Though I suppose hate is a factor as well.
