World Guide Tips Aim to Improve U.S. Image

$1:
For students worried about which fork to use — or what to do if it's dinnertime and the food looks weird — the guide offers plenty of advice. It also tackles topics such as U.S. foreign policy.

"Many people you'll meet do not understand or agree with our country's foreign policy, especially as it relates to the war in Iraq or our policy in the Middle East," the guide notes. "As one person, you can do little to directly affect national policy, but you should be aware of the negative perceptions surrounding it."

Many people DO understand your foreign policy. The problem is the Americans that don't. It would be helpful if the guide were to explain exactly what the whitehouse has been up to, that way, Americans abroad would know what to apologize for.

If you think that statement is too harsh, you haven't been paying attention.

If they really want to improve their image they could stop committing war crimes to get their paws on resources that do not belong to them.

We could improve our foreign policy by sending a strong message to the UN that the US will not tolerate the world's left-wing socialists from arming dictators under the guise of programs such as the Oil For Food Program. And we will not stand for foreigners in the UN from taking bribes from dictators.

Perhaps we ought to leave the UN, then have the US Marshalls Service serve an eviction notice on the UN giving them ample time to vacate New York. The UN is a corrupt leftist orginization that does not serve in the best interest of the world. Move it to Paris.

We should continue to assert that the US does not seek approval from the world's left-wing socialists before enforcing our foreign policy.

Move the UN to Toronto.

That's all fine Ugly, but the United States should not expect any help (Iraq for example) from the UN if that is the course America takes.

Oil for food was only required because the United States would not allow the lifting of economic sanctions in Iraq. Even after it became painfully obviouse that it was hurting the Iraq people, not Saddams regime. Oil For Food never should have happened in the first place.

Less and less the UN is being used the way it was intended. Members of the security council have taken to using it as a scapegoat.

Back to the original article, what, Ugly, do you think is the reason for Anti-Americanism? The article was on improving Americas image after all.

See?

That's what I'm talking about and that is what the article is talking about. Most Americans aren't aware that this aditude exists and the ones that do know don't understand why.

If we could somehow channel media from other countries to the American public it might help...

I was listening to a talk radio call in show thing a few months ago and a caller expressed the American attitude perfectly. It was from Boston, with that strange accent, and it went something like this, "Yeah, Baaab, I think we should hang 'em all up by the balls and beat 'em 'til they see come around."

Well Yankee, you really make it easy for people to generalize against Americans, and of course, you seem to assume that since the majority of the world did not want to commit a war crime, that we're the ones giving him weapons.

In reality, at least the one everyone else is living in, it was your government that gave the WMD to Saddam. Hell, Rumsfeild and Saddam met twice.

You really should not leave the USA Ugly. Because it is ignorant people like you that help give the USA a bad image. I know there are millions of great Americans out there that have not done or said a thing to deserve anti-American sentiment, but people like you just make us "left wing socialists" (Aren't socialists usually left wing to begin with) not like the USA.

Also, its kind of sad that Canadians now have to deal with the extremely biased bullshit of Fox News since it will soon be aired, but the government still won't allow Al Jazeera.

Further zombifcation to the US culture is an easier pill to swallow than hearing the other side of the argument. Fear and ignorance are the tools of control. I am looking forward to seeing Fox, when it comes to journalistic integrity it is a tragic comedy at it's finest.

I just wish the CRTC would put Fox News under the same criteria as al Jazeera...the carrying company (Rogers or whoever) is legally responsible for anything deemed hate broadcasting on AJ. The result is that nobody will carry it. If you applied the same rule to Fox, nobody would carry that either.

I think your an idiot.. Why would you say things like that when your Canadian? You somehow think that if your applying those labels to us that you don't count? I don't think a single one of us said that we hate Christians, and support terrorism. You sound even more stupid when you say we're "Communist Sympathizers" and then say we have a "Facist Mentality". Last time I checked they were on the opposite sides of the political spectrum.

And also, the CRTC is bringing Fox to Canada..

However, I was wrong.. Al Jazeera was allowed into Canada on July 16. However I didn't know that. The info I was going on was when it was blocked on March 23, 2004 from being aired in Canada.

I also wouldn't take back a damn thing I've said if the US closed their borders to us...
