:) I guess I should be thankful that it is summer and even in winter we don't get much for snow here...so at least I don't have to worry about shovelling snow OUT of the car. We rented a car this morning at a slightly cheaper rate than we first thought but still expensive. Now it's just a matter of ...

Thanks RH,
Unfortunately Bill and I live in Suffolk county but he works in Nassau...and his job is no where near the train so his only option is by car. We called around for rentals today...cheapest we could find was $200 for 3 days. Long Island is expensive all around...

Ok...maybe that's a bit harsh but I'm sooo pissed off right now. My husband and I are driving back to Calgary for a visit in 4 days and we left our car to have the oil changed Friday night. Someone broke into the car and stole the friggin radio!!! Having the radio stolen was insult enough but to add...

mmmmmm...timbits...
Oh...and I'm getting a Peanut Buster Parfait from DQ when I'm home (two weeks and counting!). I know they have Dairy Queen in the US but there isn't one within a reasonable driving distance from where I live right now.

It's one of those things you don't even consider until you've moved away but not all Canadian junk food is available in the US. It makes it necessary to call home and beg for care packages. And my need for Old Dutch ketchup chips is a hunger that can't be fed.
Anyone else got a favorite?

Oh...and living here has shown me the exact opposite of what you suggest. I see no advantage to Canada joining with the US and I see every advantage in retaining Canada's own unique identity by remaining as its own country.

I've got news for you...I don't hate Americans. In fact, I married one. And I enjoy alot of things that the US has to offer. But living here has given me perspective on our differences which some people may refer to as insignificant...but in fact point out why we should remain as our own countries.

Maritime I am so envious!!! I'll be moving back to Canada in about 3 years or so and like you I found that living in the US has made me appreciate and love my home country that much more. Congratulations!

Yes we get defensive. You are talking about annexing our country and making it part of the US. Our system would be no more and we'd become part the American system. Everything from our healthcare to government would change...and I personally don't think it's for the better. You know what would be a ...

I know that Boxing Day is British...I meant regionally different from the US. I should have been clearer about that. Incidentally, do the Brits celebrate with a shopping frenzy on Boxing Day like Canadians? I know that wasn't it's original intention...just wondering if the customs are similiar.

I'd also like to add that Boxing Day is a phenomenon they don't have down here in the US...for better or worse depending on your perspective.
(And I know it's not regional...it's the entire country...but it's something uniquely Canadian)
