The US may not want us to benefit from it, but if we have what they need we are in control.
Of course, the Uncle Sam Bootlickers we have in Ottawa never seem to hesitate to sell us short. |

My cynical side tells me that typical interprovincial bickering will keep such a wonderful idea from fruition, but one can always hope. People across the country are going to have to keep pressure on our provincial governments to put national priorities first on this one. THere are other advantages ... |

I could support the idea as long as they moved the speed limit up to a more sensible 120 km/h. They should also enforce the passing lane rules, not only is it annoying, but it's also dangerous. |

From what I understand, the main argument used against such a relationship is that it would be "Empire building", though if both sides move into the relationship voluntarily and via negotiation, I can't see how that would be the case. |

A couple of good ones I've recently enjoyed are WIll Gerguson's "Why I Hate Canadians" (don't let the title leave you to believe that it is anti-Canada) and Andrew Cohen's "While Canada Slept" |

Because they're like Molson and Labatts products. They're the highest sellers but otherwise watered down and boring, and sell mainly because they have the highest promotion budget.
Thought it made arather good analogy. |

Seeing as Canada has the lowest corporate tax rates in the G7, how much more of a break do they want? They keep getting it because in our inferiority mindset we think they'll run off somewhere else with a more favourable tax scheme. Sierra Leone must be thrilled with the large influx of corporations... |

Agreed with the "who cares?" sentiment. Molsons and Labatts are both shameful examples of Canadian beer, like Bryan Adams and Celine Dion are shameful examples of Canaidan culture. I'm glad to see others are annoyed by Molson's "I am not American" ads (cos that's pretty much all ... |

[QUOTE BY= Calumny] The complex part may be what to do with those workers who could be affected by the legislation. Of course not, it would be ridiculous to say that it makes you any less Canadian. Not sure if I would call myself ann Admierer of America, but I do respect the USA and its people. There are many thing about them which I think are great, and other things that are not so great. I for one am indeed tir... |

Agreed, such legislation is nothing more than trying to sweep the homeless problems under the carpet.

With the homeless, there are so many different stories it is impossible to come up with a sweeping "moral" for it all. We've had a large increase in panhandlers in Toronto o... |

An interesting approach, one I find more palatable to basic Direct Democracy. Perhaps I've missed it somewhere above, but what does NGO stand for?

Certainly more involvement in matters of government by the electorate is a good thing. I only get nervous when everyone with a t... |

Which is what Bush et al are worried about. That's why the American right-wing never hesitates for a second to bash Canada. |
