Iamacanadian Iamacanadian:
Really, Kim Campbell killed the Progressive Conservatives with her horrible lacklustre campaign in 1993. Unfortunately, this means that death of the PC party and the rise of reform and Stephen Harper's ultra right party.

The question is, had Mulroney stayed in 1993, would he have won his third straight majority government? I certainly knew he had the skills to and good record as the Prime Minister to win a weak to moderate majority, unfortunately he resigned and gave way to these neocon Harper reformers.

Mulroney knew he was going to be "gone" and he used Kim Campell to take the fall for him
As the leader of the party in power in the House of Commons, Kim Campbell automatically became the first woman Prime Minister of Canada. Her major achievement as Prime Minister was a massive reorganization of government departments creating such departments as Canadian Heritage and others. She served only a few months before a federal election was called in which she was not re-elected. In fact the Progressive Conservative Party was badly beaten by the Liberals. Some political commentators blamed Campbell for the defeat. Most argued that she was not able to overcome the political unpopularity of Prime Minister Brian Mulroney.

Jesus Christ himself could have lead the old Progressive Conservative Party and they still would've been wiped out on the prairies by Reform.

Kim Campbell was not on the ball either. The deficit was careening down history with no end in sight. Her and her policy committee, Greg Allen of Strategic Polling, did not cut the mustard. She had six months in power and could have introduced the Big One, the budget to make the fix. That would have saved a few seats.

My understanding of deficits is that Paul Martin in Canada and Bill Clinton in the USA did most the cuts in one budget, whack. In the case of the USA long term bond rates dropped the next day.
