There is no way under current Canadian law to do this, since Firearms are under the Criminal Code of Canada you cannot have different laws for region a as region b. At best it would be some form of bylaw which no one will listen to anyway.

You are likely correct uwish.

$1:
The federal government's preference is to hand some powers over firearms to the provinces, which would in turn allow for municipal regulation, Trudeau said.

So, basically treat it the same way that pot is.

It is not specified what he means by "some" powers. That should be quite the clusterfuck to work out.

Surrey can be the test case. I bet a referendum started there would pass with 80% support. And their soon to be own police force ordered to ignore lower court rulings and lock 'em up. They'd get at leasst 5 years in the can until (if) it got overturned.

Can hardly wait to see when someone who isn't a criminal gets arbitrarily turned into one by some of these specimens that get elected to city councils in this country.

This is a political head-fake, folks. The provincial princes will pretend to oppose fire-arm restrictions but will turn away when changes are made out of public view.

More garbage-can journalism from garbage-man gate-keeping journalists. Exhibit A:
$1:
The federal government's preference is to hand some powers over firearms to the provinces, which would in turn allow for municipal regulation, Trudeau said.

"In some situations, we may have a province that is unwilling to do that despite the willingness of a city or cities to do that," he said. "At which point, I have been assured, there are other tools we can use that wouldn't be as ideal, because it would involve disagreements with the provinces at a time where we want to be collaborative."

Trudeau declined to elaborate on any alternative measure, "because it's something we hope to not have to use."
Why not?????
The "journalist" does not ask the PierreMargot to elaborate.

Canada as a nation is doomed. Top-down authoritarianism absent the requisite police state to enforce power is never going to work.

At this rate the Feds will simply become such a pain in the ass that one province after another will splinter off until it's just Ontario and Quebec bleating about how 'unfair' it is that everyone else isn't paying them tribute anymore.

Phase 1: Divide...

BartSimpson BartSimpson:
Canada as a nation is doomed.
That depends upon which end of the stick you are holding.

No. Things are not as they appear.
The prAetorianarchy is doing a fine job of tightening the reins --- so fine, that nobody sees it coming.

No. It will only appear that way.

Phase 2: .... conquer.

What are you talking about? This is the exact opposite, the feds won't contest a municipality's ruling. That's the opposite of authoritarianism.
