This is why we don't listen to the knee jerk reaction that had people saying this guy should be shot or "thrown into general pop letting the inmates know he was a pedo". I can't imagine the sickening feeling of being falsely charged with something like this.

WHat a messed up case, It's good to see that sometimes the system does work and an innocent person didn't have to go to prison. The stigma attached to charges like this will unfortunatly follow him for a looooong time though.
I'd be suing this woman for all I could, slander, defamation of character, ect, I'm sure theres lots he could nail her for, sounds like she doesn't have much to give though and it would probably hurt the kid more though so maybe not.

It was the boy's mom, Collingham said, who very nearly ruined his life. Collingham said she had been depressed and unstable over the breakup of her marriage. Seeing that the family was going through a hard time, Collingham and Wood allowed the mom, her son, and her daughter, to move into their Newcastle home.

Collingham maintains he was the victim of a smear campaign incited by the boy's mother, who resented him for caring for her son while her behaviour grew increasingly more out-of-control because of her failing marriage. Specifically, Collingham and Wood threatened to call police and children's aid workers over her erratic behaviour. They also threatened to request custody of the kids.

Things soured quickly. By early 2005 the relationship between Collingham and Wood and the mom had deteriorated.

Collingham also said the mother claimed to be in love with him, even though she was well aware Collingham was a gay man in a committed relationship. He said she once threw a chair at him. She also once forced her son to defecate in his pants -- and laughed about it -- after refusing to stop the car at a bathroom when the boy indicated he needed to go.

But it was the mother's hacking into Collingham's e-mail and Facebook accounts -- something she admitted in court, saying she wrote two e-mails from Collingham's accounts -- that caused police to investigate Collingham and ultimately charge him. The hacking took place in early 2007, a few months before he was arrested.

"The mother had threatened to get me a few months prior to this, in what way she was going to get me I have no idea," Collingham said. "Well, she got me."....

Funny, I didn't see any information on that b*tch getting any form of punishment for this behavior.

What an opportunistic, selfish, corrupt and seriously screwed up woman she is. They offered her and her kids a place to stay when they apparently had nowhere else to go and actually had consideration for her kids and what they were going through.... and this is the thanks they get?

After a complaint was made by the mom to police in Toronto in 2005, the file was transferred first to Peterborough police, then finally to Durham Regional Police. Collingham was arrested by RCMP, held in a holding cell for four nights in B.C., and flown to Ontario. After another few days in jail in Lindsay, Collingham was released on $5,000 bail.

The same day, police in Durham issued a press release outlining Collingham's arrest, the charges he faced, and the claim that there could be more victims

I would have to check to see if a thread was started about this but I find it likely we saw a lot of people posting just such knee-jerk reactions to this news. Sounds like the police were very irresponsible in that announcement seeing as it would have sent parents into a tizzy especially if they were his neighbour or something like that.

This is why I have a problem with anyones name being released in any sex crime allegations. Even if found not guilty the damage is done and gaining the trust of co-workers and loved ones will be near impossible.

Now upon being found guilty, I have no problem with displaying names, photos etc of the guilty sickos!

I’m not really going to take sides on this, BUT, from a completely legal, objective, technical standpoint, OJ was found innocent as well.

From the very few cases I‘ve been involved in for the courts, unless the accusation was made during a rather nasty divorce by a vindictive wife, there’s usually something behind the charges. Even if they can’t be proven.

I don’t know if this guy is truly innocent or not, but he’ll be living with a stigma for a long time. I’d suggest that if he has cause, to go after the boy’s mother in a civil case. That would go further in vindicating him if he wins than the not guilty verdict he received.
