Wada Wada:
In all fairness what do kindergarten kids know about patriotism?
Their families are patriotic then... there is nothing wrong with being raised to love and respect the country in which they were born. If they are told there is nothing special about that, then society as we know it will be worsened. They will get all the chances in the world to have some navel-gazing when they get into high-school and university about their place in the world. However, the opportunities and benefits afforded them, even without their explicit understanding of how that works, justifies children singing about their homeland.
The Canadian and US flags were all over my childhood, in Little League, Boy Scouts (USA), Hockey and the rest... Things I had access to, opportunities I had that would have been harder to come by in say, Moldavia.
There is nothing wrong in raising children to respect other countries and cultures, but they first need to know and be proud of their own.
