I dunno why Bezos can ride the fiery penis to the stars, but can't spare a few bucks for a good show. Would go a long way to making the cool kids like him!

Right? I want to know what happens with Laconia dammit!

Picard is not bad at all.

Saw Whoopi Goldberg's name come up on the opening credits and heard myself say "Ick."

Then the show started. By the time Guinan turned up I even forgave her for being Whoopi Goldberg. The show was that good.

Just ep 1 though. We will see.

Agreed. The opener kicked ass. Anything with Borg is worth watching at least once. That being said though them doing time travel for the ten millionth time leaves me cold. Especially when it appears multiple episodes will be done in a place as crappy as Los Angeles circa 2024, FFS. Bad enough living through kind of world in reality right now, I don't need my escapist fiction programs that normally feature a much better & much brighter future putting today's malaise on display while we're already currently enduring it.

I figure this season of Picard might be my last participation in the Star Trek universe, depending of course on how good or bad the upcoming Captain Pike series turns out to be. Thanks to the twin hammers of total disappointment in Discovery and the absolutely wretched Jar Jar Abrams films, not to mention the drizzling shit of an ending they gave to Picard season one, my love for this franchise has died off greatly over the last decade. If it drifts any further into things they've already done too many times, like time travel, or inserting today's ridiculous DIE politics into it then I'll be forced to turn my back on it forever. :|

Need something to binge-watch after you've just done a lot of drugs? Well, Raised By Wolves will steer you in the proper direction for total existential weirdness.....

Eats the Tree of Knowledge, transforms from loveable hover-serpent into one of Morgoth's grouchier pets? Gleep! 8O

DrCaleb DrCaleb:

Looks interesting enough. Here's hoping they do less serialization and more weird planet of the week like TOS did.

I kind of like the Discovery format, where they have a problem and it takes a season to figure out. It lets them tease out details that TOS never did, like trying to speak to species 10C.

The preliminaries are over. Time for the big dogs!

For example:

Yes, that drum is spinning so fast it lifts a 250 pound robot off the ground!

I still don't get "Raised By Wolves". It's too disjointed. Too many threads to pull on, and no relationship between them. Why are her eyes so powerful? Why can someone eat them and get power? Where does the power come from? How are there ancient biologic androids on the planet already?

Makes no sense.

That's the point, such as there is one. It's like one of those New Generation sci-fi stories from the 1960's or 70's where the writer was clearly on drugs. Ultra esoteric and requires a wildly open mind, one free of the shackles of the ancient sci-fi movies or things like Star Trek. No one writing Star Trek or Star Wars could think up something like "killer android gives birth to friendly snake that turns into Smaug; oh yeah, watch out for the cild-sized robot too". It's like Are You Experienced?, set in a milieu where monotheists & atheists effectively wiped each other out altogether and the remnants had to flee to a place where the ocean is comprised not of water but highly corrosive acid.

It's a wild ride, man. And incredibly popular too among the HBO viewership. I think they got renewed for their third season too so it's obviously developed a very loyal base audience.

I can't believe I'm going to say this about something based on a video game, given that almost all game adaptations have been complete & utter shit, but the Halo TV series kicked off tonight and it's actually pretty fucking awesome. I am shocked it was so good, shocked I tell you. 8O
