Just a question but why are is the "Conservative" indicator placed so far to the right and lower end of the chart while the Liberals are placed fairly close to the centre?

It's based on the party's platform, ie how they would have answered the question. You can actually go thru it question by question and see what any particular party platform is.

Ya, but how you answer certain questions makes a big difference. One example would be on charging young offenders as adults, you can answer strongly agree somewhat ... etc. Ya sure that's part of the platform but it's not like they're saying "lets lock up 12 year olds for theft". If you look at what’s being proposed it’s much more to the center of the political spectrum, not some extreme right view point.

Or abortion, ya sure that's kind of an ideological thing but abortion issues really are not even on the radar in the party, the only time it comes up is when either a media outlet like the CBC or another party like the Liberal party brings up to kick start another scare campaign.

The Conservative party as whole is a lot more central on most issues despite the CBC's portrayal of them.

That is a load of utter bullshit. The left put the issue of abortion to bed 20 years ago. The only people who want to reopen the debate are the religious fundamentalists on the right.

That's pretty much what I was getting at. Abortion is not even a issue and hasn't been for quite some time. Your average conservatives aren't "religous fundies".

Huh? You said it's the CBC and the Liberals bringing it up. That's horseshit. It's a dead issue to anyone except those on the right and it's THEY who keep bringing it up.

Lemmy there's a question about abortion right in the questionnaire.

Yeah, it's poignant thing to ask, seeing as it separates progressives from conservatives.

I might be worth asking but it's really not an issue in the Conservative party itself as far as platform is concerned anymore than it is in the Liberal, Green, or NDP parties.

I think what I'm getting at here is it appears to me that the CBC is using what are considered more traditional ideologies to define and place where the conservatives’ are then what is warranted.

Both the Conservative and the Liberal party are fairly central in their platforms and I don't feel this graph accurately reflects that.

Meh, from what I've seen the consevatives aren't interested in any kind of abortion debate. They're well aware that most canadians are ok with the status quo and don't want that debate again. Sure, a fringe on the right might try to make it an issue now and then, but the party as awhole has no interest in it.

Seems that it most often comes up when lefties try to scare people with their whole "Harper has a hidden agenda" schtick.

Bullshit. It's ancient history to everyone but Conservatives and it's they who keep bringing it back up.
