I wonder why other people, who are not white, get to use that word then?

don't even attempt to explain the victim hierarchy of oppressed individuals. In fact, if you are a white guy, your privilege should have made you whip yourself with a pain stick. Unless you happen to be disabled, gay and semi transgender; then you can at least make a comment like that.

Now, go reflect on what you have done while we burn down your house.

Wendy should have retired some time ago but not over something like this. She was quoting somebody else. Can we not quote Mark Twain now? This isn’t useful.

Unless, er, ehm, you . . .aaa. . . like that sort of thing. ;)

Nope. And if that is the case, Dave Chapelle, Chris Rock, Kevin Hart . . .should not be using that word either. But they use it like I would say "Hey bud!". I agree with Bill Cosby on this, the word doesn't change meaning just because a black guy is saying it.

Hard for me to judge when they don't even report what she said.

From other articles, she was quoting a line out of 'Huckleberry Finn'.

No one is quoting what she said, but if you've read it, you know. ;)

When I was young and had my gang of friends, we would tease each other by calling the other guy "gay". This never started a fight or hurt feelings and would soon be forgotten.

But if someone outside our group called one of us gay, well that was war.

Funny the public can watch a video of a man being slowly killed by a cop, but we can't see/hear the words Mesley spoke. Not funny ha-ha though.

That depends on the audience.
Not everybody has access to a library and the school systems are deliberately poor quality.

It's really just some kind of sub-moronic intellectual totalitarianism where stepping on any one of the unknown triggering land mines out there, even if one is completely unaware that it's offensive, results in condemnation and renders one forever unforgivable. Kind of a non-lethal version of a plastic bag being put over someone's head in Khmer Rouge Cambodia if they were ratted on for not cheering vigourously enough during the indoctrination sessions. Might not be a physical killer in the Canadian version but it's definitely a career-killer now. Mesley's probably toast and will end up writing columns at the National Post just like Rex Murphy does for a living these days because she'll probably be of damnatio memorae to Woke Left Canada now and therefore unemployable among their stalwart big-hearted ranks.

This was explained to Bill Maher when he jokingly used it last year.

Non-black people don't get to use it because they are not black. Kind of how Russell Peters can make jokes about East Indians being cheap or having a funny accent without getting called a racist, or how Jewish comedians can joke about Jewish people.

Having said that, I don't see how reading Mark Twain should be forbidden, but personally, I would have said "blah blah n-word blah blah"

Dave Chapelle did a bit where he said he wasn't one either, but as a black person, he could use it to describe black people he felt embodied the word.

You or I may not agree with that, but as far as I'm concerned, it's really none of my business how other groups want to define themselves.
