EU warns Elon Musk over Twitter moderation plans. EU commissioner Thierry Breton tells Tesla chief executive: ‘Elon, there are rules’

And the dance begins. EU will dictate the terms of how twitter will be moderated as the US refuses to regulate the space. Ergo, EU laws will be the template for all other nations.

If the deal goes through, Elon is going to find out that it’s easier to launch rockets into space and have them land on their own, than it is to run a social media platform. Shitposting will only get him so far.

I think Musk paid far too much for the brand and he could have launched his own platform and people would have signed up for it with the same result. It's odd but I can't speak to the mans ego. He may have something else in mind for twitter. Considering how much influence twitter has in the US market I think this is his idea of social reform by forcing twitter to change the channel to one that is more accepting of libertarian ideals (whatever they are).

Why would he start his own when he obviously has the means to buy an established product?

If Elon had launched his own Twitter analog, like Trump did, no one would have cared except for his fan boys.

I'll reserve judgment until actual changes happen, but if he lets traitors like Trump back on, or cuts back on all the anti-hate protections on there, then people will leave the platform.

I can see Elon moving it from California to Texas just to clean up the rat nest that is there now. A total reset of the culture is required. The culture of death threats alone is reason for that. I hope he starts nailing down the bot farms and does the open sourcing of the algorithm but I have my doubts that is something that can be done anytime soon.

Twitters impact on politics and breaking news it the forte of the platform. Not just US but international and that is really what Elon can tap into that he wouldn't have be as much had he just made his own platform. Perhaps that is what he is looking to really reform (looking at the house of Saud here).
