Elon: People don't hate me enough, I'm going to be the mod on Twitter.

Smells like another pump and dump scheme from the world’s most obvious troll.

If he wins and allows Trump back on Twitter then every Tesla dealership on the planet should be burnt to the ground in retaliation.

He spent 3.8 Billion on stock, and now it's worth 4.2 Billion. But anyone could do this and get rich, according to the free market pirates. He will absolutely succeed in turning Twitter into Truth Social.

And we sit here and talk about Russian oligarchs, right?

I have always given Elon credit, he's a very smart man, and very driven. Doesn't mean he's not an asshole from time to time though. But unlike the Oligarchs, he's earned his place at the top of the Tower of Commerce. Everything he's done, he's done it inside the rules, more or less. And his play on things makes me laugh. Big 'Falcon' rocket. Cars models, S3XY. 'Plaid Edition'. Boring company.

The danger is that Musk, as some self-proclaimed "free speech absolutist", will green-light the return of Trump, the neo-Nazi types, and every conceivable conspiracy-theory kook back to Twitter. And then do absolutely nothing when they again use the platform to stoke up violence. Musk is full of shit on this, among many other things, because his philosophy will again allow Twitter to be weaponized by some seriously dangerous people who have never bothered to hide that they're trying to trigger some sort of actual civil war between dissenting ideologies. That's not protecting free speech, that's just giving a wide-open podium to maniacs and claiming it's a civil & human right.
This will not end well for anyone, at least not for anyone who isn't a total bastard.

That's too much effort for Musk. He's going to pump and dump.

If that happens, I think a lot of people will dump Twitter and it's value will tank as a result, which means Musk will take a financial hit. Nothing I've ever read about him seems to suggest he would accept that. Despite it's reputation and how much people talk about Twitter, it's barely in the top 10 social media sites based on users - it has fewer than 400 million more users, and sits behind Pinterest and Reddit. It's valuation is a fraction of the other large sites too. If he lets all the nutjobs on there, it'll wind up a dumpster fire and go the way of Myspace. I know I certainly will stop logging into my account on Twitter if it happens.

...I know I certainly will stop logging into my account on Twitter if it happens. I never started. It's easy to avoid, just never log on. I follow some peoples' links they post, but I have to clear my history often because Twitter starts to limit me viewing the posts. I don't care if Trump or anyone else gets re-instated back to twitter. People who use Twitter deserve whoever they follow. I am convinced that the tower of lies will one day collapse, and that will be a hard reckoning for some. And if Musk pumps and dumps, well, that is within the rules that exist. If people don't like it, change the rules. (I am very much against unfettered capitalism) Is it fair to call Musk the most successful African-American so far? /s

The fact that the left is shitting their pants over this tells me all I need to know. The right has been bitching about censorship on Twitter for years. The left states that Twitter is a private company, and can do as they please. If the right does not like it than they should get their own platform. It looks like Elon took their advice. He is getting his own platform. Thanks for the advice lefties. The best part is that Elon is using the thing that lefties hate most and that is good old fashioned capitalism. Money talks and bullshit walks. Its been a while since I have seen such a vulgar display of throwing money around to make your opponents simply disappear. Its quite refreshing actually. I wish he would buy up all the social media platforms and fire the asshats that are currently running them. No golden parachute, simply fired. You know the way that Trump used to fire people on that tv show. Yeah just like that. Elon Musk and the U.S.A. Sounds like a match made in heaven to me. A great man doing great things in a great country. You see these are the types of immigrants the U.S. gets. People with great visions who want to be free to pursue their dreams. They do not want to be handcuffed by big government stealing the fruits of their labors to hand out to a bunch of deadbeat losers sitting around with their hands out. You know the type. Our immigrants flee those shitholes. Everyone from the illegal from Mexico who started off with one taco stand, and now owns a chain of high end Mexican restaurants all the way up to Elon Musk who employees over 100,000 people in good paying jobs in high tech industries. Dreamers who believe in hard work and capitalism make this country great. Elon Musk was working on a farm and a lumber mill in Canada. He moves to the U.S. and he becomes the richest person on the entire planet. All that talent and unrealized potential moved to the U.S. to fulfill his dreams, put thousands of people to work, and make the world a better place. The last thing we need right now is for ANY Canadian attempting to tell Mr. Musk what he can or cannot do. The ball was in your court and you dropped it BIG TIME!!!

rickc rickc: The ball was in your court and you dropped it BIG TIME!!! No, it never was. Musk emigrated to the US from South Africa, and studied for a while at the University of Waterloo, but Canada was never his final destination. It was always the US because, as you say, the standards and regulations are much lower there. He couldn't have started PayPal here, because our banking regulations would not have allowed it.
