PimpBrewski123 PimpBrewski123: herbie herbie: $1: They are bitching that despite all his bluster about not appointing senators he has been the very worst offender in Canadian history at doing it.
That doesn't seem to matter now everyone's standards are so low that "The other guy did it" is accepted as a legit reason. That's exactly what my son said once. His sister ran up a $2000 phone bill and got punished so it should be okay when he ran up $2000 a couple months later. So let's hear how he didn't deserve a slap in the head and his snowmobile taken away. Speaking of money and partisan votes, So if the NDP offered me a 100K and a few beers for their vote in the next election, would very much consider it. So as for beers, had a few tonight too. A few? Is that all? I heard you Allouette fans were lightweights! ![Drink up [B-o]](./images/smilies/drinkup.gif)

Lemmy Lemmy: So Harper's appointed 33 senators now. 33 senators at $131,000/yr. Nice one, err, 33, Uncle Stevie. That's quite a selfish spending spree you've gone on, buying yourself a Senate with our tax dollars in the middle of a recession. Oh wait, I forgot, Ayn Rand tells you selfishness is a virtue. But how can they fit all those bodies in the chambers? Mike Duffy's ass alone takes up a couple of cubic metres. So what do you propose as an alternative? Leave the seats empty? It's often easy to sit back and judge, but come up with a solution if you don't like the status quo.

Partisan jokes aside I think its fucking criminal that so many bailed out banks and companies are paying their top execs millions in bonuses under the banner of "you have to pay good people to keep them". If they were good they wouldn't need bailing out. Bastards!

Lemmy in all respect here, those seats would have been filled no matter, be it Conservative in this instance, or had it been the Liberals in power. And btw, Jacques Demers and his glucosamine and him being a previous Habs coach, makes him one of the coolest Senators.

So the Conservatives have gained control of the Senate. Well, hopefully this will get a few bills passed, including Senate reform.

commanderkai commanderkai: So the Conservatives have gained control of the Senate. Well, hopefully this will get a few bills passed, including Senate reform. Have you not been paying attention? Harper cannot get any senate reform without a constitutional amendment that requires provincial input. He passed a bill legalizing fixed election dates which he himself broke and to no detriment because the bill/law was simply not constitutionally binding. No government was actually required to adhere to it just as the senate is not bound to adhere to any legislation that violates constitutional law. You also ignored the fact that Harper has passed loads of shite and you cons are crying now because he can't get passed a shitty bill designed to circumvent judges. Open a few books on the subject or is your University not bothering to teach basic Canadian politics and law in its PolySci program?

Leave the seats empty? Yes. Shut the goddamn thing down altogether. OnTheIce OnTheIce: It's often easy to sit back and judge, but come up with a solution if you don't like the status quo. I just did. Shut 'er down. Less politicians = more democracy.

But did it need to be done now? In a recession? Add $4M/year in government salaries to a rub-stamp program? How about spending those $4M/year on job creation for more than 33 people? 33 people that are already rich, for that matter.
