Teachers are over paid . Part time job full time excellent pay. There are a few good teachers out there but the UNION doesn't let teachers get rewarded for work put into the job or not put into the job.

It is NOT a part time job. Teachers do get summers off, but like ShepDog said, most teachers days go from 7AM to 7PM plus weekends. Throw in classes full of bratty kids and then tell me it's a part time job.

Man I wish I went to school where there are teachers doing that!

Kinda like asking "What's more important: Water or Fire?" Both highly useful, but hardly interchangable.

Well, if teachers are "grossly overpaid" then so are soldiers. The reality however is that most soldiers could not handle the responsibility of a teacher and many teachers could not handle the responsibility of a soldier. Of course, those that have no experience as either a teacher or soldier are in no position to indicate which is worth more, either.

I have the good sense to be neutral on this question.

If you think soldiers cannot be teachers then you have never been to a military training school. For instructor on a QL3 (trade) engineer course his day starts at 0500 to take the students on PT, after his shower and breakfast he must inspect the recruits at is usually at 0700-0730. Then he has to start his teaching job, which can include 3 or 4 classes taught to 2 or 3 different courses. Then at 1630 he gets to go home mark/grade tests, write new lesson plans or do some more instruction with his course. After all that is done he gets to be with his family before he has to get asleep again and take his course on another 8 km run at 5 am.

Add on to this any disciplinary problems he has to deal with regarding recruits and the fact that an instructor doesn’t get PD days, Snow days, Summer Break, and is usually teaching on long weekends.

A soldier can do a teachers job  .

The great difference is that soldiers or recruits who behaved like a lot of students in today's civilian schools would be in the brig or doing punishment duty. I would also doubt that military instructors are dealing with a few total illiterates who can't write, spell or put together simple sentences, along with some psychos with no self-control or anger management, and with few resources or support from superiors to handle the situation. The level of stress is far different as well as the skills necessary. :)

It's like asking which is more important, air power or land power. I won't include seapower because it is far more important than either.

7 to 7   you're talking about a sparse few who put in those kind of hours , as I mentioned those should be rewarded for their work but the union doesn't allow such recognition pay. Summer Holidays,Easter/Spring Break, teachers convention days, professional development days , stat holidays , faith days...can we make up a few more?

Part time job. most teachers show up at 8:30 and are out the door by 4.

meet my sister...and all her teaching friends.

My daughter has 20 kids in her class... 8O and the teacher has a PT assistant...how tough is that:lol:

There's likely an assistant in her class because there is a special needs student. Once upon a time they were educated in seperate schools and classrooms. Now you can have kids with DS, autism, FAS and ADD all in the same class as advanced, intermediate and remedial students. When I was a student we had streaming, which in my opinion is a good thing.

Wow, with that horrible a situation, I would suggest home schooling. I am sure you could do a much better job than any teacher out there. Don't pay your taxes either. Only wasted on those terrible teachers. 8O

I agree. The inclusion thing has gotten out of hand and I don't think it helps the regular students or the special needs ones either.

ahh poor ole teachers don't like to be criticized .

teachers work 7 to 7 ,7 days a week, and house wives clean the house all day.
time to ditch the old school teacher myths.
