I now wish there was atleast one middle east country (Maybe Byzantine) with a decent military capable enough to match 1:1 with the europe units because the pope makes being a Christian nation annoying, everything you do is wrong. If you attack another christian nation, the pope gets angry at you. If you do it too much he excommunicates you and every christian nation is free to attack you.
That's why you make alliances and form either the "Excommunicated League" or the "Fuck Everybody League" and just start tearing shit up.
Like when I played as Spain, France and Sicily kept attacking me, adne very tiem I got close to conquering them, the Pope would be like: "Stop, or else I excommunicate you." And I would always comply, because the last thing I need is a Papal army coming down on me with Venetian and Hungarian armies.
But I got tired of trying to bribe the pope, and losing money due to constant repair of buildings and building of armies, so I just said "fuck it", and kept on attacking.
The Pope's biggest mistake was killing a general in a very important city of mine. Over the next five turns, Rome is mine, I'm chasing the Pope and what's left of his cohort through the Alps, and there are five Inquisitors dead.
