Try again. This one has some local history.

Is it the HMS Charybdis?

Nope. Both a CRD park and an island named after it.

That is so awesome! I saw that on BBC America when it first aired.

The U-2 and the Global Hawk both are known to fly out of Beale AFB just north of Sacramento. Once in a while we will have a U-2 fly over the house on a low level approach to Beale and it's pretty amazing.

That James May can hitch a ride on the U-2 tells you that as cool as it is, it's not the secret black airplane it used to be. In all probability the Air Force has something with even more cowbell that they really depend on for spy missions these days.

That is sweet. What I would give to do that. What I find funny is that the pilot is wearing glasses.

I thought that odd too, but realized the U2 isn't a high-g turning machine.

Right, but even so when I applied to the RCAF I was declined all piloting whether it was a CF-18, transport or chopper because I had corrected vision.

Imagine what it was like back in late 1945 when you could see dozens of them all returning home at the same time. The neat part would have been to see all those navy blue/grey colour schemes mixed in with the natural wood deck tan shade they used back then instead of today's grey.

"I can imagine a no more rewarding career, and any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction: 'I served in the United States Navy'

President John F. Kennedy

Thanos, the refit team at Richmond restored the Iowa's teak decks to their 1945 configuration.

No more haze gray on the deck.
