It's a meaningless gesture that takes 5 seconds. Maybe it is time to abolish it but that isn't for the newbies to decide through the courts. If it really bothers you stay the fuck out of Canada.

Here is another one. Fuck off, right?

When you become a Canadian citizen you can have a say in the matter. Till then STFU.

Like I said, CKA is full of fools :)

You are an asshole. Or can I only say that when I become a citizen?

Did it ever occur to you that I may not want to swear allegiance to any Queen but the Queen of the country I was born in? Or to none at ALL just because I don't believe in swearing oaths to ceremonial institutions?
That that's the reason I don't become a citizen? My say in the matter is to not take it to court, because I do not want to interfere with the values and traditions of the country I live in, but to stay PR.

So explain, how do I 'shut up'? Or should I just 'fuck off'?

Why do Dutchmen wear wooden shoes?

To keep the woodpeckers off their heads.

Btw, there are many immigrants that I regularly talk to about this sort of stuff that feel exactly the same way. So I'm not just sharing my own sentiments.

I was born in England so no oath of allegiance was required.

When I became a Canadian citizen I took the oath just like everyone else. No big deal.
Has it had any effect on my life, no, not in the least. I cannot understand why people enjoying this great country gripe about totally meaningless trivia.

If it's meaningless then why are we doing it?

Canada should become a republic, only a republic is inline with the ideals of Canadians. A core of which is that all people are equal.

Yeah, look at the fine republics out there. The now defunct Union of Soviet Socialist REPUBLICS. The People's REPUBLIC of China. And of course, the most laughable of all, the "Democratic" People's REPUBLIC of Korea.
Even the US isn't quite the bastion of equality they like to present themselves as.
As much as I could give two shits nor a rat's ass about the Monarchy, I also see no reason to change something that works, for Canada.

Maybe you need to dial it down a bit, eh? Because you're upset about an obvious troll of your Dutch traditions while wearing your ignorance of Canadian traditions on your sleeve.

Seriously, if Canadians require you to swear an oath to the Queen or whoever else then that's part of the deal in being a Canadian. If you don't like it then leave. Otherwise why are you there? You're obviously not interested in being a Canadian in the respect of a person who contributes to what it is to be Canadian, but you're obviously there to get something you couldn't get in the Netherlands.

Most people would be grateful.

You're just in it for yourself, I suppose. If not then maybe you should act accordingly instead of acting like a selfish parasite who's just in it for herself.

Seriously? You too are telling me I cannot be a completely LEGAL resident, but have to become a citizen or fuck off?

I should be GRATEFUL for being able to follow the rules the country set? REALLY???

You are right, I am not interested in becoming Canadian for reasons that are only interesting to me.
Now tell me something, Bart... First off, you don't even bother to LIVE in Canada, yet only to have a vacation spot here, right?
Who the fuck are you to tell me anything??

A selfish parasite??? What makes you think I am a parasite?

I wonder if the oath would be easier for some people to swallow if it was more clearly explained. First off, you're not swearing to the Queen of England. You're swearing to the Queen of Canada. Same person, but not. As well, I think it might be easier if you think of it not as swearing to Elizabeth, but rather swearing to Canada. As the queen she is Canada.

I know that on a personall level i would have no problem swearing an oath to my country, or to my country personified in a regal old lady, but I would have a problem giving an oath to said lady just as a person. If that makes sense?

Let me rephrase this one tho, for I am sure someone will misread purposely.
$1:
I should be GRATEFUL for being able to follow the rules the country set? REALLY???

According to Bart, I should be grateful for the rest of my life because I paid for something, which was investigated and granted to me. My visa. In return, I should shut up about things that I consider strange, stupid, weird, don't agree with. NO ONE else has to, only non-citizens should. And if I don't want to become a citizen, for whatever reason, I should just fuck off and leave, regardless of the laws, rules and regs, which make it completely legal to stay a PR forever, buy a house (with a 35% down payment), have a job, pay taxes. The ONLY difference citizenship would make for the country, is my right to vote in (I think) federal elections. I don't know, what is the percentage again of citizens who go voting?

So, Bart... Why don't you just create your own little kingdom, hmm?
And, do me a favour. Stay the fuck out of Canada. We residents of this awesome country do not need Americans who are not even remotely contributing as much to this country as any resident does, to tell them what to do.
