Robair Robair:
It's insulting. But I don't think it was an intentional insult.

It was just an intentional "money-grab-dick-move".

"weak" and "dishonest" are absolutely intended insults...

Ah I see. That's legit.

DJT bitches about tariffs now... whats he going to say when everything US made/exported is tariffed?

What DJT is demanding is NOT IN THE BEST INTEREST OF CANADA. Easy fix, stop demanding and start negotiating. We're a reasonable bunch.

DrCaleb DrCaleb:

That's where he started with NAFTA. Demanding things he would never accept for the US, then
bullying us as if that would work when we don't back down.

But guys, signing a trade agreement that would obliterate an entire industry is the reasonable thing to do. And JT isn't being reasonable.

Maybe we'll allow x tonnes of US dairy tariff free every (day/month/year) as a compromise. But demanding we deep six our dairy in favor of US dairy is and always should be out of the question.

Tricks Tricks:
I always like that you completely ignore he started the insults by saying we are a national security threat.

The insults did not start this year.

Maybe not, but they really started flying this year.

Coach85 Coach85:
He's standing up to DJT because his demands are unreasonable. You can't subsidize your dairy industry and then demand us reduce tariffs on dairy, He's asking for us to do something he'd never do .

Canada imposes these same tariffs on European dairy imports as well.

Not since CETA came into effect. 98% have been eliminated, and we have started to comply with European trademark laws.

Eg: you can't buy 'Gouda' in the store anymore, now it's 'soft ripened cheese'.

So why is EU dairy okay but US dairy is a threat to Canada's national security?

Also, it looks like Canada fucked over the EU on dairy quotas by giving half of the 'import' quota to Canadian dairies.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/ceta-c ... -1.4230138

$1:
A much-anticipated announcement came Tuesday on how Canada will allocate tariff rate quota (TRQ) for 16,000 tonnes of fine cheese and 1,700 tonnes of industrial cheese.

Those licensed to import this new tariff-free European cheese stand to reap the profits.

But Canada's plan to give 60 per cent of this quota to its domestic dairy industry, to compensate for market share it's about to lose, didn't go over well in Europe.

Negotiators were called back to Brussels and relented, hammering out the compromise announced Tuesday: half the new quota will go to the domestic industry's cheese makers while the other half is allocated to distributors and end retailers. Each will get about 8,000 tonnes of new quota.

Because the CETA deal is we import X KG of their dairy, they import the same from us. Both of our supply management systems are satisfied.

With the US, your amount of overproduction exceeds our entire industry. You could wipe out the entire Canadian industry with discount crap and not even notice. And I write 'crap' because there are things you allow in dairy and poultry that are not allowed here, like antibiotics and growth hormones.

Yes you can, I just had some for lunch. It was, however, made in the Netherlands. And it was VERY good.

You put hormones and other shit in your dairy. We do not, much like the Europeans.
