Some day I hope we actually send our best athletes, right now we're just sending the best, who's parents have the cash to allow their kids the opportunity to train 6 or 8 hours a day instead of having to go work that part time job at Earls, to help themselves get through Uni.
We have a lazy funding system, win a Medal then you become a carded athlete and here's your cash.
Some how we have to get the money to the kids that are gifted athletes at 16 or 18 years old, but have to drop out of sports because it's either University or sports because they can't afford both.
Our team that is in London have all earned their opportunity to participate, and will work hard to do their best, we'll cheer them on. I just don't want to hear from that athlete that finishes 39th out 40 in the heptathlon and hear them say I just came here to enjoy the experience.
I'd like to see what the ghetto kid can do, the ghetto kid that has to shoplift a couple of porkchops from the market to help feed his family, the ghetto kid that can run through the hood climbing fences, jumping from roof top to roof top, sprinting down back alleys to get those porkchops home before the fly's fly off with them there chops.
That's just an example, lots of middle class kids are in the same boat, I'm sure.

I'd like to see more balanced funding too - I'd like to see more corporate funding, as well as better provincial/federal funding of athletes.
