Please keep this topic on topic. Thank you.

how do you talk about police misconduct without talking about why it happens?

If you want to rant against capitalism do it somewhere else.

police violence and capitalism are very closely related.

what is the point of talking about police violence if you don't want to talk about the causes? what do you actually hope to achieve with this thread?

Only in your mind. Police can be violent in dictatorships too, and the reason many of these cases exist has nothing to do with commerce or capitalism.

nope, it's well documented.

here you go:

Stop Kidding Yourself: The Police Were Created to Control Working Class and Poor People

history is important, you know. but to shady liberals such as you and Bart, history clearly means nothing.

Police Officer Memorialized as Fallen Hero Actually Killed Himself to Cover Up Theft

On Sept. 1, a police officer in Fox Lake, Illinois, named Joseph Gliniewicz was found shot to death in a "remote, marshy area" shortly after having radioed to report that he was pursuing three individuals who had engaged in "suspicious activity." A manhunt for the suspects ensued, and Gliniewicz—who headed a "Police Explorers" school program in Fox Lake, which is about 60 miles north of Chicago, and was known locally as "G.I. Joe"—was memorialized as a hero. But authorities now say that they believe Gliniewicz committed suicide—and that he attempted to make his death look like a line-of-duty murder to cover up the fact that he was embezzling from the Police Explorers program. From the Chicago Daily Herald:

George Filenko, commander of the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, called Gliniewicz's actions the "ultimate betrayal" that included intentionally leaving a staged trail of police equipment at the crime scene in an attempt to mislead police to believe his death was a homicide.

Filenko and other law enforcement officials announced details of the investigation's findings that Gliniewicz took a large sum of money from Fox Lake Explorer Post 300. Thousands of dollars was used by Gliniewicz for personal purchases, including travel expenses, mortgage payments, gym memberships, adult websites, facilitating personal loans and unaccounted cash withdrawals, Filenko said.

Stealing from a kids' program to pay for adult websites!

Police say Gliniewicz left the trail of items, including his baton and pepper spray, strewn near his body after calling in the report on suspects who don't seem to have ever existed. The investigation into his death has implicated two other people in possible criminal activity, authorities said, but did not provide further details.

Pretty awful stuff but at least he was classy enough to save the taxpayers the trouble of prosecuting and housing him for the next 15-20 years.

This is blowing up down here right now.

On the upside of this is the fact that the usual horseshit of "I was in fear for my life" didn't come into play here.

This is a good sign because it means the good cops are being empowered to stand up to the bad cops. R=UP

Cop Got Too Wasted To Accept Mothers Against Drunk Driving Award

The world can learn even more about a Florida deputy who got into hot water after partying a little too hard prior to a Mother’s Against Drunk Driving awards banquet this summer, thanks to new details revealed by a local news station last week.

Michael Szeliga, a deputy for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department, was slated to receive a MADD award in July for making more than 100 DUI arrests. But when Gulfport Police Chief Robert Vincent saw him staggering around outside the awards venue, he told Szeliga he seemed too drunk to go inside, according to documents from an internal affairs investigation obtained by news station WFLA.

"I said, 'You don't want to embarrass the sheriff here -- that's probably not too wise," Vincent told ABC Action News. "Apparently, he did."
