EyeBrock EyeBrock:
At the end of the day the Japanese committed horrendous atrocities against allied prisoners of war. It should not be forgotten. Fletcher was right, he should have reworded it in our politically correct universe.
Maybe he could have said something about fluffy bunny rabbits or how Canada now accepts war criminals from all over.
The Nazi's and Imperial Japanese forces (to a lesser extent the Italian Fascists) routinely committed atrocious acts against POW's and Fletcher pointed that out.
He apologised for offending all you bleeding hearts who like the truth sugar coated. Stop whining.
While the MP should have worded his comments better, it is undeniable that the Japanese of WII were brutal, along with the Germans and Fascist Italians and all their allies, as was their nature. This is well documented. I sympathize with him for his feelings with respect to that. I have met several veterans who hold way harsher views than him, but then again they were there. He definately should have thought about his responsibility as a Canadian politician in the year 2005. I wish that the events surrounding the internment of Japanese-heritage citizens had been differant but that was a differant time and there is nothing I can do about it now. Think about what they did to allied soldiers? Who started that mess? Was it Canada? Nope. See, we didn't intern Japanese-Canadians first and then the war began, it was the other way around, the way I remember. Thats when things got stupid.Things tend to go more black and white in those kinds of times, just ask the Americans, they are doing it now and can't figure out why we don't support them. I'm not saying that is right, just that was the way things were back then.
